The 20-year-old defenceman knew the Vees assistant coach Aaron Wilbur, when the two were both part of the Trail Smoke Eaters organization.
“It was just a situation where I had a chance to win a championship and I knew Aaron Wilbur and I took him up on this great opportunity,” said Hengen, who is playing his fifth year of junior. Deciding to play in the WHL instead of the BCHL was a last minute decision for Hengen.
“It was good and I was enjoying my time there. It was a situation where they wanted me to play forward and I played defence my whole career and wasn’t willing to switch to forward my last year,” said Hengen.
