“I thought we played extremely hard -- not as smart as we played hard, if that makes sense,” said Kings associate coach Stew Malgunas. “We definitely have to play smarter, but we went nose-to-nose with one of the best teams in the league."
Overall, de Vries wanted to see a better defensive performance by his club.
“They were missing a few key guys so we figured we could beat them,” he said. “Goalscoring isn’t necessarily the issue as of late, it’s goals-against. We need our defensive play to step up. It’s lack of communication and just maybe panicking. When we get out there for a while, we seem to say, ‘We’ve got to get this puck out’ when we should just be calmed down and play our positions and let them make the mistake.”
