Night 1

In Vernon at the Wesbild Centre the Salmon Arm Silverbacks answered a Vipers' first period power play goal with an even strength marker 50 seconds later to tie the game at 1-1. Three minutes later the 'Backs took the lead for good and in the third period they added two insurance goals a minute apart for a 4-1 final. Kris Moore turned aside 26 shots and the penalty kill went 86% for the victory.

In West Kelowna at Royal LePage Place the Penticton Vees used 32 saves from Joel Rumpel for a 1-0 shutout victory over the Warriors. Kevin Boyle stopped 27 shots but a late second period goal stood up as the winner.

In Trail at Cominco Arena the Smoke Eaters scored seven goals in the first 29 minutes to cruise to a 8-2 victory over the Merritt Centennials. Sam Mellor and Scott Jacklin led the way with four and three points respectively. Jared Anderson was chased from the net after 20 shots and five goals in 21 minutes.

In Victoria at Bear Mountain Arena the Coquitlam Express earned a 6-5 overtime loss to the Grizzlies after three third period goals. The game ended with 17 seconds left in 4-on-4 hockey. Joel Lowry recorded three points including two power play goals as the Grizz finished 2-2 on the man advantage.

In Surrey at South Surrey Areana the Langley Chiefs picked up a 5-3 victory over the Eagles in a penalty filled game which featured three power play goals for both teams in ten opportunities. Only the first and last (empty net) goals of the game were scored at full strength. Wyatt Galley made 40 saves for the victory.

In Powell River at Hap Parker Arena the defending Coastal Conference Champion Kings opened with a 3-0 shutout victory over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Michael Garteig turned aside 20 shots for the blanking.
