Week Six's Three Stars

1. Victoria Grizzlies goaltender Matt Ginn made three starts in the span of six days and won all of them. Starting on Tuesday in Port Alberni the 1991 born netminder stopped 35 of 37 shots to defeat the Bulldogs 3-2. On Friday the Lindsay, Ontario resident again allowed two goals and this time turned aside 27 in a 5-2 home victory against Nanaimo. Saving his best for last the 5'11" 170 pounder recorded his first shutout of the season with a 5-0 topping over Salmon Arm which he stopped all 31 shots and also added his first assist of the season. In the three contests Ginn posted a 1.33 goals against average and .959 save percentage. Overall Matt has the league's fourth best save percentage (.928), sixth best goals against average (2.44), and he and the Grizzlies have won five straight games.

Prior to joining Victoria he played three seasons for his hometown Lindsay Muskies of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. In his time Ginn posted a 2.98 G.A.A. and a .903 save percentage. Ginn was also a member of Team Canada East at the 2009 World Junior "A" Challenege and was invited to Team Canada West's Evaluation Camp earlier this month.

2. Nanaimo Clippers defenceman Graeme McCormack played in three games this week and compiled two goals and six points. The 1991 born rearguard had three assists on Wednesday in a 6-0 win against Salmon Arm and two goals and an apple in a 11-5 victory over Langley. The Thunder Bay, Ontario resident is sixth among blueliners in points with 12 including three goals in 11 games so far. Last season with the Victoria Grizzlies the 6'2" 190 pounder had nine goals and 28 points in 41 contests.

It was a whirlwind summer for McCormack as he was first traded to Penticton from Victoria for future considerations. The Vees followed by flipping Graeme to the Winnipeg Blues in a deal that Penticton picked up Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick Brendan O'Donnell. Finally a month later the Clippers acquired him from Winnipeg on September 13th.

3. Penticton Vees goaltender Joel Rumpel was an overtime hero this week as in two games he recorded two overtime victories with a 1.41 goals against average and a .948 save percentage. Starting on Tuesday in West Kelowna the 1991 born netminder allowed only one goal on 33 shots in a 2-1 OT win over Westside where he also collected his first assist of the season. On Friday the Swift Current, Saskatchewan resident allowed two goals on 25 shots in a 3-2 double overtime victory over Merritt. Overall the 6'4" 180 pounder has the league's seventh best goals against average (2.56), the 11th best save percentage (.909), and has won four straight contests.

Last season Rumpel secured a scholarship to Wisconsin University for the upcoming season after going 19-3 in 24 games with the second best G.A.A. (1.97) and the third best save percentage (.920).
